More About This Event

An exclusive evening with Richard E Grant featuring stories of showbiz, and reflections on love and loss

Join acclaimed actor and author Richard E Grant for a deeply personal and entertaining evening as he shares stories from his extraordinary life in showbiz, interwoven with uplifting reflections from his bestselling memoir, A Pocketful of Happiness.

Following the passing of his beloved wife Joan in 2021 after nearly forty years together, Richard embraced her challenge: to find a pocketful of happiness in every day. His memoir is a moving tribute to that promise—filled with warmth, wit, and wisdom.

From his iconic breakout role in Withnail and I to recent performances in Saltburn—filmed at Drayton House in nearby Northamptonshire—Richard has captivated audiences for decades.

After the event, Richard E Grant will be signing copies of A Pocketful of Happiness in the Nevill Holt Festival bookshop.

Nevill Holt Festival

The festival will continue to present a varied and rich programme of events in addition to opera that includes a wide range of talks and ‘in conversation’ events on visual art, culture, history, politics, wellbeing, sport and design as well as jazz, classical and world music performances, family events and comedy. See the full programme here.

With panoramic views that look out over three counties, performance venues include the estate’s medieval chapel and award-winning theatre, with idyllic gardens designed by Chelsea gold medal winner, Rupert Golby. Festival-goers can enjoy outstanding pieces of modern British sculpture throughout the gardens, including works by Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread, Allen Jones and Marc Quinn.
