Our organisation was founded in 2013 with a clear mission to enrich lives and empower young people through the power of music and the Arts.  Nevill Holt Festival will continue this work alongside broadening access and engagement to the Festival.

In 2024 our education programme will see over 1,200 young people from across the region participate in creative opportunities.

EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY

Thousands of young people have seen a performance at the festival free of charge, taken part in a workshop at their school, performed on our stage or received individual singing lessons.

We are constantly inspired by the young people we work with, but the statistics support the importance of this sort of work too. Research shows that students from low-income families who take part in arts activities at school are three times more likely to get a degree, while people who take part in the arts are 38% more likely to report good health.

The employability of students who study arts subjects is higher and they are more likely to stay in employment, while access to culture is one of the most important factors determining a young person’s well-being. Reaching young people with music and creative activities is clearly more important than ever.

Schools

We provide tickets for free schools’ performances, deliver workshops in schools, invite local young people to perform on our stage and provide individual singing lessons to help them unleash their musical and creative potential.

Associate, Emerging and Foundation Artist Programme

Since 2013, we have worked with over 160 young singers, offering them vital life experiences in a professional opera company. We are committed to casting young singers providing opportunities for the most talented young singers to make essential role debuts.

We have been committed since it began to casting the best emerging operatic talent on its stage. We work almost exclusively with young artists who are either still at music college (Emerging Artists) or who are breaking into the opera industry (Associate Artists).

As a result of our commitment to nurturing the best new operatic talent, we have created a place where audiences can ‘take a seat in front of future stars’ (The Times).  Singers from past NHO productions can now be seen on the main stage at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, and at leading opera hosues around the world.
